Written with the layperson in mind, Nukes for Novices provides an overview of the history and modern industry of the nuclear world, focusing on nuclear weapons, nuclear power, and nuclear medicine. This does not spend time on the benefits of nuclear medicine, which are only briefly outlined (there are already hundreds of sources available about the benefits) but rather focuses more on the nuclear waste generated by the nuclear power and medical industries.

There are no opinions in this book, only statements based on solid research, a large portion of which comes from government sources. However, the picture that emerges is nevertheless one of environmental concern. The book is therefore recommended for people wishing to know about how the entire nuclear industry emerged and is now affecting the environment.

Many years in the making, this book reflects the extensive research of its author in an easy-to-read logical sequence. Great for the informed citizen, book club discussion groups, and the college classroom. Study guide with discussion questions/essay suggestions is included for each chapter. (209 Pages)

Author JoAn Alderman Saltzen, Ph.D. spent twenty years compiling the research upon which this book is based and has presented a comparative analysis of the nuclear industry in the United States, England, and France at two international conferences..
